Important Game for Different Reasons
11 December 2009 12:10:00

Alfreton Town and Hyde United go into Saturday's rearranged Blue Square North match with very different reasons for needing all three points.

The Reds need to re-ignite their faltering promotion campaign which has come off the rails over the past three weeks due to a rash of injuries which decimated manager Nicky Law's squad to such an extent that only two substitutes could be named for the last two league games, both of which were lost.

Alfreton will be looking to halt a run of defeats in their last three league games by gaining a first win in five outings in all competitions.

And if the Reds can pick up all three points for the first time since November 10th, it will give them a first league double of the campaign.

Manager Law is without suspended duo Anthony Howell and Aden Flint but does welcome back club captain Kyle McFadzean and Lloyd Kerry from hip and hamstring injuries respectively whilst striker Liam Hearn is finally fully fit.

Kerry's loan spell from League Two neighbours Chesterfield expires this Saturday.

Law also has selection decisions to make over his starting line-up with Carl Palmer, Ben Starosta and Laurence Matthewson added to his squad since the last game and Curtis Shaw available.
However, he is still without Matt Wilson, Richard Pell, Anton Brown and Kris Bowler, who all remain on the injured list.

The Tigers arrive in eighteenth place in the table, two positions but only one point above the relegation places.

As well as trying to climb the table, Hyde will be wanting to put an end to an awful run on the road which has brought defeats in their last six games away from Ewen Fields.

They will also be out for revenge for a 5-1 home drubbing by the Reds in early September, but to do so, United will have to come up with a first victory in nine league games, a run which gives them the worst current form of the 22 teams in the division.

Top scorer for the Tameside club is David McNiven with six league goals so far.
