Stags Honour Former Boss
03 March 2010 11:55:00

Blue Square Premier club Mansfield Town have announced that a new ten-year lease of Field Mill has been secured following a successful period of negotiation with the current landlord Keith Haslam.

Blue Square Premier clubs must have a minimum ten-year lease on their ground in order to compete for a place in the Football League.

"Negotiations throughout were very amicable during our talks to extend the existing lease," said chairman Andrew Perry.

Meanwhile, the club decided to commemorate the life of former manager Ian Greaves by naming a stand in his honour.

The West Stand will be formally re-named at 12.30pm prior to the home match against Tamworth on Saturday, 13th March.

Greaves, who led the Stags to Freight Rover Trophy glory in 1987, passed away in January last year, aged 76.

Perry added:"We hope this is seen as a gesture to help keep the memory of a legend alive.

"Mr Greaves was arguably our greatest ever manager and led us to one of the club's finest hour at Wembley.

"By honouring Mr Greaves in this way, we are putting another piece in the jigsaw which is helping to put the soul back into Mansfield Town Football Club."
