Bookmakers Refuse to Give Odds on City Win
19 March 2010 09:35:00

Glenn Pennyfather refuses to acknowledge the bookmakers who have opted not to offer odds on a Chelmsford City victory in this Saturday’s clash with bottom club Weymouth at Melbourne Stadium.

The Clarets head into the match as hot favourites as they bid to secure an early play-off place, and most outlets have declined to set odds for the game, with the teams at opposite ends of the Blue Square South, but Pennyfather says it might not be so straight forward: “We don’t care about that, we’re only concerned with ourselves.

“This is our most important game as it’s the next one and we’ll make it as intense as if we were playing Newport at the top. The reward is as great as in any other game, three points, and we’ll prepare as we always do. Weymouth have players returning so our players must apply themselves.”

Facial injury victim Ricky Modeste is a certainty to miss the game although his recovery continues. He could feature again in the Chelmsford attack in a number of weeks providing his cut lip heals-up sufficiently, with his involvement assisted by a gum shield to protect the teeth he damaged in a 50/50 challenge at AFC Hornchurch last week. Meanwhile, defender Ben Martin requires a fitness test though Simon Glover’s path back from a broken ankle continues after 90 minutes for the Reserves in midweek.

The Terras have had a tough time this season which has tested the patience of even their loyal fan base. Financial difficulties have contributed to their position rooted to the bottom of the table with a mountain to climb to avoid relegation. However, City’s Head Coach is experienced enough to know there is a job to do and will recall the two close games against Weston-super-Mare, only one place higher, when preparing his side.
