Another Steelmen Win Keeps Play-Off Hopes Alive
20 April 2010 08:44:00

Corby Town take on Blyth Spartans at the Rockingham Triangle on Wednesday and, should they win, must then sweat it out on Saturday to see if Monday`s 2-1 win at the Corinium Stadium against Gloucester City helped them to make a late bid for the play-

The Steelmen`s chances looked to have gone a couple of weeks ago, but a run of good results has swept them back into contention.

Saturday`s win at AFC Telford United gave them increased hope, and on Monday Steve Diggin broke the deadlock 6 minutes into the second half to give the visitors the lead.

Graham Drury`s side then increased their advantage after 65 minutes through top scorer Leon Mettam (pictured), and although Lee Molyneaux pulled one back for the Tigers, it came deep into stoppage time and too late to mount a comeback.

Workington sealed their play-off spot on Saturday in winning 2-1 at Solihull Moors, but Reds` boss Darren Edmondson was keen for his side to keep the momentum going into the semi finals as they travelled to Ewen Fields to take on lower mid-table Hyde United.

And they achieved just that, taking an early 5th minute lead through Paul Rowntree and then making sure with a second right at the death from Jonny Wright.
