14 August 2010 19:16:00

A round-up of Saturday`s opening Blue Square Bet North fixtures....

On the opening day of Blue Square Bet North, Hyde FC started life with their new name disappointingly, going down to a 5-0 drubbing at the New Buck`s Head against AFC Telfordf United.

Telford`s new boss Andy Sinton (pictured) saw Phil Trainer give his team a 27th minute breakthrough and Andy Brown double their lead 10 minutes later.

It was the final 13 minutes that the home side pulled clear, adding further goals from Greg Mills on 77 minutes, James Lawrie 3 minutes from time and Steve Abbott from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Droylsden, tipped to do well this season, beat Eastwood Town 4-2 at the Butcher`s Arms – and after falling behind to an 8th minute Lindon Meikle effort.

Paul Lloyd pulled the Bloods back on terms 23rd minutes lead and Ciaran Kilheeney gave them the lead 11 minutes later.

James Holden and Andy Brown added to the tally before the Badgers pulled one couple back though Tyeisse Nightingale in stoppage time.

It was a decent day for the new boys. Anthony Church's (pictured) effort gave Boston United the perfect start with the only goal of the game in 31st minute to give his side a 1-0 victory over Stafford Rangers at York Street.

Nuneaton Town won the battle of the newcomers with a 2-1 away victory at the other side who came up with Boston, Guiseley.

Jamie Walshaw opened the scoring for the Yorkshire side in the 28th minute, but goals from Wayne Daniel after 52 minutes and Chris Dillon on 68 saw the visitors come from behind to claim the three points.

Quietly fancied Gainsborough Trinity recorded 2-1 away win over switched Worcester City at St George`s Lane.

Jefferson Louis opened the scoring as early as the 2nd minute, Sam Aiston doubled the advantage in the 21st minute, but Neil Cartwright managed to pull one back for the visitors just before half time. However, his effort proved too little too late as Brian Little`s men held on for the points.

Workington enjoyed a winning start to the season as they beat Gloucester City 2-1 at Borough Park.

Goals from Phil McLuckie after 34 minutes and Matty Tymon 6 minutes from time wrapped up the three points for the Reds before Marc Richards netted a late consolation goal with 3 minutes remaining.

Matty West netted a brace to give Solihull Moors a 2-0 win over Blyth Spartans at Damson Park.

West opened the scoring as early as the first minute and doubled his tally on the half-hour mark to secure all three points for the Moors.

Bookies` favourites Alfreton Town, who narrowly missed out on promotion via the play-offs last season, started with an opening day 1-0 victory over Hinckley United at the Impact Arena.

Jake Moult's goal 10 minutes after half time proved to be the winner.

Another fancied side, Corby Town, beat Harrogate Town 2-1 at the Rockingham Triangle.

In-form Ben Mackey gave the Steelmen the lead after 15 minutes and Andy Hall wrapped up the points in the 65th minute.

Graeme Armstrong pulled a goal back for the visitors with 10 minutes to play, but it proved to be just a consolation.

Troubled Ilkeston Town got off to a winning start when they beat Vauxhall Motors 2-1 at New Manor Ground.

On-loan Obi Anoruo opened the scoring for Motors in the 19th minute, but the Robins equalised just 5 minutes later through in-demand Amari Morgan-Smith.

Gary Ricketts` effort 3 minutes later was enough to give Kevin Wilson`s side a well-deserved victory.

Stalybridge Celtic notched up a 2-0 win over Redditch United at Bower Fold.

New signing Phil Marsh opened the scoring after 9 minutes and Jody Banim netted a second from the spot less than 2 minutes later.
