Tuesday`s Vanarama National League Round-Up....

Forest Green Rovers could have returned to the top of the Vanarama National League with a decent win over Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium on Tuesday night.

But in the end, despite ending their indifferent run in emphatic style at Bromley last Saturday, Mark Cooper`s side had to make do with a point from a 1-1 draw.

Forest Green took a 24th minute lead when Christian Doidge dived to head in his 14th of the season at the near post from a Keanu Marsh-Brown cross.

Eastleigh equalised 10 minutes later with what looked like a headed own goal following Luke Coulson's corner, but recent signing Ayo Obileye claimed it.

New signing, the vastly experienced Darius Henderson, came on at the break to give Eastleigh a lift, and the home side came closest to winning the contest with an effort from Hakeem Odoffin and then from Ben Strevens.

In the end though, both sides settled for a repeat of the 1-1 draw at The New Lawn back in September.

Macclesfield Town rekindled their top five hopes by damaging Dover Athletic`s following a 2-1 Moss Rose victory.

The visiting Whites came into the game holding the final play-off slot, and took an early 8th minute lead, courtesy of a Jamie Grimes header which new Silkmen keeper Scott Flinders misjudged.

The returning Flinders redeemed himself with a fine save from James Hurst as the half wore on and saw his side eventually get back on level terms in the 69th minute when Chris Holroyd diverted a Danny Whitaker effort past Steve Arnold in the Dover goal.

Six minutes later, Holroys doubled his and Macc`s tally when he was put through to slot past Arnold.

Flinders again came to his side`s rescue late on when he made a fine save from sub Tyrone Marsh.

Sixth-placed Barrow AFC lost a third game in a row, going down to a 1-0 defeat against Southport at the Furness Building Society Stadium.

Still suffering from the hangover of being knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup by Rochdale last weekend, Barrow fell behind after 14 minutes when, following their own corner, Ben McKenna broke away and fired across on-loan goalkeeper Jonathan Flatt from a narrow angle.

At the other end, big Moussa Diarra hit the bar with an overhead kick and near the end, Barrow`s Danny Livesey forced a superb save from his own keeper Flatt after a miss-directed header.

The result leaves Barrow three points adrift of the top five, while Steve Burr`s side moved five points clear of the drop zone.

Level on points with Southport are Braintree Town after they won at the Amlin Stadium by the same scoreline against mid-table Sutton United.

The U`s, who made it through to Monday`s Fourth Round FA Cup draw after goalless draw against AFC Wimbledon, couldn`t follow that up with a similar battling performance on their travels.

It`s the U`s away form that is costing them a top five challenge, and they went down to the only goal of the game after 36 minutes.

Michael Cheek grabbed one of the Iron`s few opening period chances to give his side an advantage they held on to, despite Sutton putting them under pressure in the second half.

Matty Tubbs hit a post and Braintree had to thank keeper Sam Beasant for several decent saves as they held on for three good points.
