Saturday`s Vanarama National League North Round-Up...

AFC Fylde maintained their eleven-point lead at the top of the Vanarama National League North table on Saturday after winning 2-1 at relegation-threatened Gainsborough Trinity.

The Coasters took the lead at the Martin & Co Arena 4 minutes before half-time, with inevitably top scorer Danny Rowe being the marksman.

But Trinity, with three debutants in their starting line-up, equalised 9 minutes after the break when Jordan Thewlis was brought down in the box and he got up to convert the resulting penalty.

Fylde scored what proved to be the winner 14 minutes from time with a goal that just showed the difference between top and bottom as a Rowe effort took a wicked deflection off Trinity`s Ioan Evans to wrong-foot the home keeper and go into the opposite corner of the net.

It was a good day for all of the play-off chasing sides, with wins for second-placed Salford City, third-placed Kidderminster Harriers, Chorley, FC Halifax Town and sixth and seventh-placed Stockport County and Darlington 1883 respectively.

Salford put a massive dent into Brackley Town`s own hopes of mounting a top five challenge with a 1-0 win at St James`s Park.

The Saints, fresh from a 6-0 hammering of AFC Telford United, were beaten by a Michael Nottingham header just shy of the hour-mark.

Harriers were comfortable 3-0 winners at Aggborough against an Alfreton Town side now looking over their shoulders at the drop zone.

A penalty converted by James McQuilkin opened Harriers` account after 19 minutes.

Liam Truslove added a second after 27 minutes and it was effectively all over bar the shouting just 5 minutes later when Bermudan Tyrell Waite made it 3-0.

Chorley increased Telford`s relegation worries after a 2-1 Victory Park success.

Jack Sampson put the Magpies ahead after 28 minutes.

Josh Wilson restored parity 6 minutes before half-time.

But Andy Teague`s goal 5 minutes after the break eventually proved enough for Matt Jansen`s side.

FC Halifax returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win at the Horsfall Stadium against struggling Yorkshire rivals Bradford Park Avenue in a game which saw both sides end with ten-men.

After a forgettable first half, with Oli Johnson put Avenue ahead after 64 minutes before he was dismissed for a second booking.

The Shaymen fought back through Richard Peniket on 70 minutes, and then substitute Tom Denton out them in front with 4 minutes remaining.

Matty Kosylo made sure of the win when he netted the visitors third in stoppage time, although there was still time for Peniket to also see red for elbowing former Shayman Ryan Toulson.

Stockport attracted another excellent gate of 3,495 as they entertained neighbouring Curzon Ashton at Edgeley Park.

Danny Lloyd gave the Hatters an early 5th minute lead that he doubled 5 minutes before the break.

Jimmy Ball`s penalty 11 minutes into the second half made it an uphill struggle for Curzon, who could only manage a last-gasp spot-kick reply which Matty Warburton converted.

Darlington are just a point behind Stockport after putting another nail into now bottom-markers Stalybridge Celtic`s coffin.

Mark Beck`s 27th minute penalty given after a foul on David Ferguson proved to be the only goal and leave Celtic fifteen points from the safety-mark with games running out.

Tamworth`s top five hopes took a blow when they were beaten 1-0 at Broadhurst Park by FC United of Manchester.

It`s unclear how many of the 2,407 crowd were still in the ground to witness an amazing 35-yard strike by Nathan Lowe to win it for the Reds in the 4th minute of stoppage time!

Harrogate Town`s play-off hopes look over as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the team immediately below them in the table, Gloucester City, at Whaddon Road.

After a first half in which chances were few and far between, the afternoon’s goals arrived just a minute apart.

First Simon Ainge continued his fine form in front of goal with a thunderous strike after 58 minutes, before the Tigers’ own top marksmen Luke Hopper levelled just under a minute later as the points were shared.

Jordan Murphy's 83rd minute equaliser was enough to earn Worcester City a point on the road against Nuneaton Town, moving them clear of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Joe Ironside gave the hosts the lead in the 12th minute.

As the game progressed, City looked the more potent threat but it took until the 83rd minute for them to be rewarded for their persistence when Murphy fired a left-footed effort past Tyrell Belford in the Nuneaton goal drawing City level.

And for the first time in months, Altrincham are off the bottom of the table after winning 1-0 at the Jakemans Stadium against old rivals Boston United, who still need points to avoid being sucked into a releagtion scrap.

Elliott Newby's 32nd minute strike settled the encounter in the Robins' favour despite a dominant start from the Pilgrims. Harry Vince had rattled the post while Lewis Hilliard was denied twice by visiting keeper Stuart Tomlinson as United's bright opening went unrewarded.
